Sun protection

Korean sunscreen is known for light, invisible textures: formulas such as Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun or the SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum feel like a moisturiser and leave no white cast. All products here have SPF 50 or 50+ and PA++++ and comply with EU cosmetics law. Sun sticks are ideal for reapplying over make-up.

Guide: Sun protection

Why Korean sunscreen is so popular

Korean sunscreens use modern UV filters such as Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S or Uvinul T 150, which protect broadly against UVA and UVB while feeling very light. Skincare ingredients such as rice extract, centella, hyaluronic acid or niacinamide are added. The result is a texture you can wear every day without a white cast.

Chemical or mineral?

  • Chemical (organic) filters: the lightest textures, ideal under make-up; patch test if your skin is very sensitive.
  • Mineral filters (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide): well tolerated, slight white cast possible; modern formulas offset this with a tint.
  • Hybrids: combine both for tolerance and wear.

How to apply

For the face, the rule of thumb is about two finger-lengths of cream. Apply in the morning as the last step after moisturiser and reapply every two hours in the sun. A sun stick works over make-up and fits in any bag. Sunscreen does not replace shade and clothing; the packaging instructions are authoritative.

Frequently asked questions

What does PA++++ mean?

The Asian PA scale rates UVA protection. PA++++ is the highest grade and corresponds to very high UVA protection, shown in the EU by the UVA-in-a-circle logo.

How much sunscreen do I need for my face?

About 1.2 to 1.5 grams, roughly two finger-lengths. Less product means considerably less protection than stated on the packaging.

Are Korean sunscreens allowed in the EU?

Products sold in the EU must comply with the EU Cosmetics Regulation and be notified by a responsible person in the EU. We only carry such products; manufacturer and responsible person are listed on every product page.
